Open AXIS Group’s primary goal is advocacy and promotion of XML as the optimal electronic messaging structure for airline system connectivity used in content distribution. The organization has already established a proven XML schema as the baseline for its standard and will work closely with its members to adopt, promote, enhance and maintain this schema to create a robust industry standard that addresses the needs of both the supply and demand sides of the travel supply chain.

The current Open AXIS Group XML schema supports the full range of airline transactions, from straightforward booking and PNR management transactions, to more complex transactions involved with multiple passenger management, ticketing, exchange, refunds, voids and the various merchandising related transactions including optional services, bundling, EMD management and payment and settlement solutions. “With support from Open AXIS Group members, we will provide a robust, standardized XML schema that addresses both current and future needs of the travel industry,” said Jim Young, executive director of the Open AXIS Group.

Open AXIS Group is open to any entity that operates in the travel industry, including the airlines (Full Members) and other third party developers, GDS, travel agencies, associations, and consultants (Allied Members). There is however no requirement to join Open AXIS Group to use its messaging standard, which can be downloaded at www.openaxisgroup.org.

PhoCusWright’s European Consumer Travel Report explores key trends and indicators impacting consumer travel in Europe. According to the report, French travelers show a strong ratio of consumers who plan to travel more versus travel less. The German outlook is also positive, though more moderate. U.K. travelers, in contrast, show a very slight growth trajectory for the upcoming year. Among those with Internet access, just 6 percent of French travelers, 9 percent of German travelers and 5 percent of U.K. travelers plan and book their trips completely offline. When shopping for leisure travel, the majority of French, German and U.K. travelers typically use general search engines, which rank first among website categories.

Even in today"s price sensitive environment, travelers most commonly cited prior positive experience as a reason to visit a website -- 38 percent in France, 50 percent in Germany and 51 percent in the U.K. Only 38 percent of French travelers enjoy staying in hotels, compared to 72 percent of German travelers and 82 percent of U.K. travelers. Over a third of travelers now carry mobile phones with web browsing capabilities -- 38 percent in France, 37 percent in Germany and 47 percent in the U.K. Fewer than 10 percent of travelers have performed travel-related activities on their mobile phone in the past year. Yet intentions show that the mobile travel audience will likely double in the next 12 months. For more information, call 860 350-4084 or visit www.phocuswright.com.

"" Dear Mr.Tony
A huge thank you for the help with organising our recent trip to Vietnam. We had a wonderful time, thoroughly enjoyed every minute and have been singing the praises of the country and Indochina-holidays since we returned. It was the best holiday we have had in years. Everything went so smoothly, Claire was a joy, quietly organised and Nam and Viet both great sources of knowledge and good fun. Nothing was too much trouble for any of them. They were all great ambassadors for Vietnam Royal Tourism."

The Vietnam tour was FANTASTIC....our tour guide, Huong, from Vietnam Royal Tourism was one out of the box !!! It was so good having someone organise internal flights, where to eat, what to expect to pay etc. etc. He was our eyes, ears and tastebuds. The pace of the tour was also great. Do put Vietnam on your agenda before it becomes too commercial. The food, people, countryside, history and shopping are all soooo amazing!"

Hanh vitality, enthusiasm and general caring and warm personality really made this experience for me so rewarding. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She is a real asset to your organisaton. I wish I had staff like her… I would love to do another tour in the future but don’t know how any tour leader can now measure up to Ms Hanh."

We really enjoyed everything - the sights and sounds, the people (both Vietnamese and fellow-travellers) and May, our tour leader was excellent. Our minds are still buzzing with images and recollections from Vietnam and Cambodia while we get back to 'normality', whatever that it!"

I do want to go on record to say that our trip last November/December to Cambodia and Vietnam was a huge, huge once-in-a-lifetime experience for us two. We have been praising your company every chance we've had since we returned home. Your planning, your timing, your sensitivity, your professionalism were extraordinary! "

It was great to have a local guide who had amazing knowledge of his country. I really enjoyed hearing Mr Tuan ’s experiences and his running of the tour was superb. I loved the boat ride down the Mekong, and it was amazing to see the giving of the alms by the monks."

Our leader Han is a natural treasure. The local restaurants, shopping and history are amazing. Hue’s Saigon Morin was pure bliss – I enjoy the colonial/planter atmosphere - that Vietnam Royal Tourism uses."

Our trip to Vietnam was an incredible experience. Words cannot fully explain how much we enjoyed the trip. Our tour guide was marvellous. She was not only a great organiser and guide, but a great person who went well outside her responsibilities to ensure that our trip was a memorable one. Next year we are looking to visit Cambodia and I will contact you when we begin planning!"
